Asmongold WoW Forever: the quick facts

Asmongold's WoW Forever run is the biggest thing to happen to his World of Warcraft content in years. Blizzard's new "Classic+" game gave him a fresh, level-60 Azeroth, and within days of the beta opening he had turned it into a stage for Olympus, the largest guild network the game has ever seen. Here is everything in one place: what WoW Forever is, what Asmongold is doing in it, and how to follow along.

What is WoW Forever?

World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's answer to years of players asking for "Classic+": the original, 2004-era Azeroth, but with genuinely new content instead of a straight replay of old expansions. Blizzard announced it at BlizzCon on September 12, 2026 and describes it as a permanent home rather than a limited-time season. It runs alongside modern World of Warcraft and the existing Classic versions instead of replacing either.

The key design choice is the level cap. WoW Forever stays at level 60. Instead of new expansions raising the cap, Blizzard plans to keep expanding the original world sideways, with new zones, stories and endgame at 60. It takes place in a separate continuity that starts in the first year of the original game.

What's new in WoW Forever

• About 1,000 new quests spread across the whole 1–60 leveling range.
• Three new zones: Mount Hyjal, Zephras Isle and The Riverglades, plus overhauls of existing classic zones.
• Nine additional dungeons and new 10–20 player raids.
• A new battleground set on the Darkspear Islands.
• A new neutral race, the Skyborne, an elven race that either faction can play.
• New race and class combinations, such as Forsaken Paladins and Dwarf Shamans.
• Class specialization updates with new abilities and talents aimed at making weaker specs viable.
• New reputations that unlock items and account-wide perks.
• An SD/HD character toggle and engine upgrades: new lighting, global illumination, a new water renderer and real-time shadows.

How much does WoW Forever cost?

WoW Forever is included with a regular World of Warcraft subscription or game time. Blizzard also sells optional upgrade packs. Beta access came bundled with the Skyborne Epic Pack ($59.99) and the Warcraft Forever Collection ($79.99), which is how most streamers and viewers got in on September 17.

Why WoW Forever matters to Asmongold

World of Warcraft is the game that made Asmongold. His audience grew up around his WoW streams: mount and transmog farming, raid nights, and blunt reviews of every expansion. His launch streams for WoW Classic in 2019 drew some of the biggest audiences the game has ever had on Twitch, and he went on to co-found the streaming organization One True King (OTK) in 2020.

Over the last few years his streams shifted heavily toward react content, and WoW became something he returned to rather than lived in. WoW Forever changes that. It is built around exactly the kind of experience his community loves: a fresh start where everyone is equal, a huge shared world, and room to create moments that couldn't happen in a mature game. For a creator whose best-known WoW moments were about crowds, a brand-new world where thousands of viewers can join him on day one is close to perfect.

Asmongold's WoW Forever beta, day by day

The beta opened on September 17. What followed on Asmongold's channel was less a leveling stream and more a social experiment. Here is how it played out, using his own uploads as the timeline.

September 19: "5,000 people join Olympus and it begins"

His first WoW Forever upload, Blizzard did not see this coming.., is a five-hour session where he founds Olympus, designs its tabard live on stream and starts recruiting everyone in sight. The recruiting philosophy was set in the first two minutes:

"Try to tell anybody if they're not in Olympus, they should join Olympus."

Later in the same stream he explains why the guild invites literally everyone, and why size is the point:

"World feeling massive is the entire point."

September 20–22: 10,000 people and a broken Stormwind

By his September 21 upload the title said it all: 10,000 people do exactly what I tell them in WoW Forever. The same day, facing calls from other players to ban him, he summed up the server's new reality:

"There are two groups of people in WoW Forever. There are the people who are in Olympus and the people who aren't in Olympus yet."

Gatherings of hundreds of Olympus members in Stormwind became a running theme. Players reported frame rates as low as 10 FPS in the capital, and his September 22 video is simply titled We Broke WoW Forever..

September 23–24: 30,000 members and a mute addon

By September 23 Asmongold put Olympus at more than 30,000 members across 30+ guilds. That same day a player named Solastro uploaded OlympusMute to CurseForge, an addon that hides chat from anyone in an Olympus guild. Asmongold's September 24 uploads were 30,000 PEOPLE AND GROWING... WE CAN'T BE STOPPED and I accidentally started a cult..

September 26: "They tried to ban us"

His next uploads, Blizzard just did the unthinkable... and They tried to ban us and this happened.., cover the backlash and the guild's continued growth. The thumbnail of the latter claims 40,000+ members and calls Olympus the "biggest guild in WoW history."

September 27–28: past 40,000

Olympus crossed 40,000. The Olympus Guild addon's own census screen shows 40,830 soldiers across the network, up from about 30,000 just five days earlier. His uploads kept pace: WoW has never seen anything like this.. on September 27 and Holy sh*t.. Blizzard just folded on September 28.

The controversy around Asmongold in WoW Forever

Not everyone is enjoying the show. Asmongold's presence has split the WoW Forever beta, and it is worth understanding both sides.

• Crowds and lag. Hundreds of players following one streamer around means crowded cities and heavy frame-rate drops, with reports of Stormwind falling to 10 FPS.
• Chat spam. Recruitment messages and unsolicited guild invites clogged Trade and General chat. Reports also pointed to spam and offensive messages from some members, which is behavior plenty of Olympus members distance themselves from too.
• Calls for a ban. Some players on social media and the official forums asked Blizzard to remove Asmongold from the beta.
• Other streamers weighed in. Sodapoppin called Olympus members "very obnoxious."
• OlympusMute. The mute addon hides Say, Yell, whispers, Trade and raid-warning messages plus chat bubbles from Olympus guilds, and auto-declines their invites, duels and trades. A share of it by WoW partner Morrigan passed 300,000 views on X in a day.

Asmongold's response has been to lean into the bit. Reacting to OlympusMute, he posted: "This is either a hate crime or racism, I'm not sure which one yet." Blizzard, for its part, has been enforcing its naming policy across the beta with forced name changes and, in extreme cases, removing beta access. Those actions target names that break the Code of Conduct, not Olympus as a guild.

WoW Forever also makes the situation hard to avoid. The game groups players by ruleset rather than by realm, so there is no quieter server to move to.

1. Watch live on Twitch at twitch.tv/zackrawrr. The Olympus WoW homepage shows a red LIVE badge when he's streaming.
2. Catch the edited videos on AsmonTV. Every Olympus upload is collected on the Olympus videos section.

What happens when WoW Forever launches?

WoW Forever launches on November 4, 2026, and beta characters don't carry over. Every Olympus guild, every Lord and every tabard will have to be rebuilt from nothing on launch day. For a community built on the feeling of a massive shared world, that is less a problem than a second opening night.

The big open questions are how Blizzard handles a launch-day crowd of that size, whether Olympus comes back at the same scale, and how the rest of the Alliance on the PvP ruleset reacts. If the beta is any guide, the first week of WoW Forever will be one of the most-watched stretches of World of Warcraft content in years.
